Newsletter December 2008

Here it is, the first issue of my online newsletter. "But what is going to be in it?" I hear you say. Well general modelling topics created by myself, friends of mine and any other modeller who wishes to have anything posted. Just send the to my email address in a Word document with any photographs and images if required, then they will be added to the next newsletter. These topics can be about show reviews that you have visited, tips on models that you have built, website's that you have discovered, clubs looking for members, etc. The topic is down to yourself, as long as it modelling related and of interest to fellow modellers.
For the start, things will be a little slow in the newletter topics. I will try and get things started with a couple of articles and if you would like to, send me something and I will add it to this month if it is possible. But I will be looking for articles for January's issue.
To subscribe for a newsletter update email notification, send me an email and I will put you on the list for notifiation of updates.

Show Reviews

Letchworth, November 2008
A great little friendly show put on by the Letchworth Model Club again and this was my second visit there. The show is mainly aimed at the figure modeller, but there is always wide range of models and visiting clubs at the show anyhow. In the competition room, there was a good turn out of models entered in all classes, with some amazing figures entered. At the other end of the competition room, demonstrations of modelling could be seen and it always impresses me watching these figures being worked on.
Well done Letchworth and I'll see you next year.

IPMS Nationals, Telford, November 2008
Unfortunately, I could not make both days this year due to family commitments, so I only visited the Nationals on Sunday. It was great seeing some friends from different parts of the country again to catch up on things.
With my time being limited, I could only have a quick look around the show. The Phantom SIG did a marvalous display to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Phantom with over 500 models on display. In the competition area, it was the usual excelent quality of models entered in the many classes available. "Wallace & Grommit" raised their heads again with a selection of movie theme based models and I especially like "The Italian Job" display with the three Austin vans in the sewers. Overall, a great show at which I spent too much money again (in trouble with the wife for it!). But there was one down side to it though! Why oh why did the hall management decide to start cooking burgers in the hall for? Models which were being displayed on stands and in the competition area ended up covered in grease. I hope this does not happen next year IPMS?
