Arado Ar240C-2 Nightfighter
This was a little project which I started a few months after the dust had settled don after the house move. I needed a break from the ongoing projects sitting there,as I had hit the mind numbing wall from working on them. So a new fresh quick build was needed to break this period.
I chose this kit as it was something basic and different from what I had been doing, plus the aircraft was a rare one of which there was only fifteen examples ever made in various versions. The aircraft started life as a nightfighter, but towards the later period of the war, they were all converted into reconnicence aircraft. Construction was straight forward without any issues during construction, not taking long to assemble up to the painting stage of the project. Once the cockpit canopy was masked up and glued in place, I first went over the exposed glazed areas with interior colour before giving the whole model a coat of primer. The first colour laid down was RLM 76 all over the fuselage followed by patches of RLM75 on the upper wing and fuselage surfaces. Once the coat of gloss clear was dry, the decals were added and the these were sealed with some matt clear to protect them.
Any detail painting was carried out on the model and remaining parts before final assembly started to finish the model off. Invisible thread was used for the aerial wires to the two rudders before the masking on the cockpit glazing was removed. The final stage of this project was weathering using some powders, then paints via the airbrush, sponge and brush.
