E.E. Lightning F.6
This was a kit I picked when the wife and myself had a few days away. The kit is an old one because it has raised panel lines on it, but my plan was to upgrade the model when I started building it. The original idea was to add the Aires resin cockpit set for the Trumpter Lightning F.6 kit, but this was stopped because the kit was not good for the resin set to be used on. So the part built kit was sidelined for a while until another idea came up. I decided to build the Ligthning as an aircraft on static display outside either its airbase or a museum. The problem was I had cut away the kits cockpit interior for the resin cockpit. So to get around this, I blacked out the cockpit glass with black paint on the inside. The model was then built as the instructions and it was painted in the Blue over Grey colour scheme of No.11 Squadron that was based at RAF Binbrook in 1983.
The base was made from a piece of MDF with some plynths for the Lightning to sit on made from plastic strip. Sand was laid over wet PVA glue to represent gravel below the aircraft and Woodland Scenics scatter was used for the grass surrounding it. A basic but effective display base.
